The Registry of Mushrooms in Works of Art

Introduction

The purpose of the Registry is to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between mushrooms and people as reflected in works of art from different historical periods, and to provide enjoyment to anyone interested in the subject. At present, the Registry includes almost exclusively Western paintings.

The pages of the various views of the registry are under construction and will be added here as they are completed.

This registry is an open-ended endeavor. We hope that others will look for mushrooms in works of art. You are welcome to share your "finds" with us by email (addresses below). Please include:

  • artist's name and nationality
  • title of the work, dimensions, kind (e.g., oil, watercolor) and location
  • description, number and, if possible, the identity of the mushroom(s).
