This guided mushroom foray will take you deep into recently burned forest zones where the elusive fire morels fruit in abundance. During the day you will have the opportunity to learn how to recognize ideal burn-site indicators\, hone your identification skills and discover the unique ecology that drives these legendary mushrooms to fruit in such spectacular flushes. \nEvenings bring the comfort of Manning Park Resort’s cozy mountain-valley lodge\, where participants can share stories\, compare finds and enjoy hearty meals and local wines. Whether you’re a dedicated morel hunter from south of the border or a Canadian forager chasing the spring burn flushes\, this event promises education\, unforgettable camaraderie\, and – fire\, rain and luck align – a basket brimming with fresh morels. \nOur event will also include hands-on culinary workshops\, voucher and DNA-sequencing working with the MycoMap BC Network\, presentations from Canadian mycologists and culinary delights conjured by NAMA Culinary Arts Committee Chair Chef Julie Schreiber and a roster of rockstars. SUMMARY:MMS First Camping Foray
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Manitoba Mushroom Society \n2026 August 7 to 10 \nManitoba Mushroom Society’s First Camping Foray \nJoin MMS in its FIRST Camping Foray at Betula Lake campground in Whiteshell Provincial Park. \nWe have many activities planned including: night bio-luminescent/UV forays\, daytime forays\, collecting species for our fungarium and DNA sampling\, workshops\, cooking\, campfires (hopefully)\, an intro canoeing clinic if desired\, and more.  Tent site mushroom decorations are welcome. \nThe park’s beautiful birch\, aspen\, conifer and mixed forests stand upon the Canadian Precambrian Shield which\, combined with remnant sand beaches from glacial Lake Agassiz\, provide varied ecosystems and notable plant and fungi diversity. Betula Lake is named after the prevalence of paper birch\, Betula papyrifera\, trees in the area. \nThis event is for Manitoba Mushroom Society Members only\, required by our insurance policy. Camping participants may arrive and depart anytime between August 7\, 11:00 am and August 10\, 10:00 am. \nRegistration information is coming soon\, mark your calendars.

SUMMARY:NAMA Yoop Annual Foray
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to descend upon Michigan’s lushly mushroomy Upper Peninsula for our 66th Annual Foray! Join hundreds of your fellow mycophiles in a land where locals proudly declare themselves “Yoopers\,” amid thick forests during the prime foraying season. \nThe event will be held at the Northern Michigan University Event Center in Marquette\, which has a large ballroom\, several classrooms\, and easy parking.  But\, what it does NOT include is housing. \nSo\, the foray planning team recommends that if you’re thinking of going\, you should book your accommodations right away for Thursday Aug 27 to Sunday Aug 30\, 2026\, at whatever hotel\, or AirBNB\, or campgrounds suits you.  There are many to choose from.  Reserving now gives you plenty of choices\, but if you wait until later\, there will be less availability.  Also consider ride-sharing\, especially if you’re a member of any of the Host Clubs that are assisting NAMA with logistics and volunteers.   \nAlso\, you may want to arrive a day early to visit the local forests. The Foray team will distribute maps and recommended self-guided fungi collecting locations for attendees to spend time in the forests before the event begins.  This will replace our previous “early bird” forays.  We plan to have tables with voucher collection slips at all the recommended self-guided locations\, starting Wednesday Aug 26\, 2026 (the day before the event begins). \nTickets will go on sale in March 2026 for the NAMA Yoop foray.  We’ll have the schedule finalized by then\, as well as volunteer opportunities.  Please bring your UV lights because we’ll be doing evening walks on the shore of Lake Superior for Yooperlites\, which are UV-reflective stones. They are fairly easy to find\, and unique to the area. A fun keepsake to take home with you! \nWe cannot wait to see you UP there!
