The Mycophile Quarterly: Submission Instructions

The North American Mycological Association (NAMA) publishes The Mycophile Quarterly four times annually as a full-color online magazine. Content may include (but is not limited to) original as well as selected previously published NAMA-affiliated-club newsletter contributions, contests, NAMA committee reports and updates, foray news and announcements, fungally relevant news items, coverage of mushroom-club presentations and speakers, accounts of foraying with friends and family, book reviews, puzzles, poetry, cartoons and fungi-forward culinary recipes. Illustrations and photos of fungi and photos of foray participants with accompanying identification notes are appreciated.

Material is welcome both from NAMA members and nonmembers. Articles written by well-informed amateurs and professional mycologists should be aimed at engaging readers of all knowledge levels. Depending on the topic, articles will be published in the approximate order of acceptance and/or the most appropriate season to ensure broad interest of the readership.

Authors may submit content in any emailable, editable word-processing format, including Word docs, Google docs or in the body of an email. Please do NOT submit pdf documents that are not editable. Please suggest a headline title for your submission as well as how you wish your byline to appear, e.g. “Joe Schmo, PhD, etc.). Each piece should be accompanied by a brief bio and the author’s headshot photo. Please provide at least one (if not more) photos to complement your content; please provide photo credits for each photo as well as a suggested photo caption.

Please email all contributions to The Mycophile Quarterly Editor Bruch Reed at, with the subject line “MYCOPHILE SUBMISSION from” followed by your name. Please note that the Editor reserves the right to edit contributions for clarity, style and space limitations. The Editor will make final decisions on acceptance and publication.

Artists may submit via email an image to grace The Mycophile Quarterly cover at any time. Visual art submittable in any medium is welcome, as are photographs of 3-dimensional pieces. Please note that art submitted for our cover may be altered as necessary for purposes of publication.
